Rosenberg Martin Greenberg is proud to announce that eighteen of its attorneys have been selected for inclusion in the 2015 edition of Maryland Super Lawyers®. Caroline Hecker was honored on December 4, 2014 at The Daily Record's Leading Women awards, which identifies women age 40 or younger for the tremendous accomplishments they have made so far in their career. They were judged on professional experience, community involvement and a commitment to inspiring change. Andy Baida was honored on November 13, 2014 as the top lawyer of The Daily Record's 26 Leadership in Law award winners for 2014, which recognizes members of Maryland’s legal community who have made outstanding contributions to the profession, public service and the future through mentoring. Gerry Gaeng, the Chair of RMG’s Litigation Group, received the Towson University Alumni Association’s 2014 Volunteer Service Award on October 16, 2014 at a banquet and award ceremony at the university.  The award honors a member of the Alumni Association Board of Directors who provides special service to the association.

Gerry has served variously as President of the University’s Alumni Association, a member of the President’s Board of Visitors and a member of the Board of Directors of the Towson University Foundation. He has also served on various ad hoc university committees and is a member of the Towson University Founder’s Society and the Towson University Executive Club. Gerry currently serves as the Co-Chair of Towson University’s 150th Anniversary celebration.

Gerry previously received the Towson University Alumni Association's Spirit of the University Award in 2000, and the Towson University Dean's Recognition Award for the College of Liberal Arts in 2007.

    On March 6, 2012, Rosenberg Martin Greenberg's tax controversy group was honored and presented with plaques to commemorate their great efforts in becoming certified instructors for the U.S. Military's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program at Fort Meade.

    The VITA program provides free, quality tax return preparation for military service men and women and their families. Volunteers are trained and certified to prepare taxes within the guidelines and limitations of the VITA program. The Military VITA program is a partnership between the Internal Revenue Service's SPEC (Stakeholders Partnerships Education and Communication), the American Bar Association, and the U.S. Military.

    The tax controversy group (Caroline Ciraolo, Brian Crepeau, Jim Liang, Elizabeth Shaner, Brandon Mourges, Julian Lee, Seth Groman, and Timothy Wagner) met with the IRS and the ABA in mid-December to begin the certification process, which they completed over the course of the next several weeks. With each person certified to prepare basic, intermediate, advanced and military tax returns, the group then prepared course materials and during the week of January 9, each member of the group served as an instructor at Fort Meade, teaching military and civilian volunteers how to prepare military tax returns and address issues that may arise during the 2012 filing season.

    The IRS plans to use our firm as the model for future Military VITA programs across the country and abroad.

    The Morris B. Myerowitz Moot Court Competition is a prestigious annual contest, consisting of a written brief and four rounds of appellate argument on a written competition problem. The final round of the competition is held in the Law School's Ceremonial Courtroom. The finals are attended by past winners of the competition, other Law School alumni, and members of the Maryland bench and bar, as well as students, faculty, staff, and administrators.

    Each year, distinguished members of the region's judiciary preside over the final arguments, naming a best oralist and runner-up best oralist. The name of the student who wrote the competition's best brief is also revealed at the finals.     The Maryland State Bar Association, Inc., Section of Young Lawyers, has presented Melody Tagliaferri Cronin, an associate in the firm's litigation department, with the 2008-2009 Distinguished Service Award. The award was given to Ms. Tagliaferri Cronin for her contribution to the MSBA's Section of Young Lawyers for her role as Chair of the Wills for Heroes Program in Maryland. Wills for Heroes is a national organization which provides basic estate planning documents to emergency personnel. It was founded because of the many 9/11 first responders who died without having wills in place. In addition to her significant role in the founding of the Wills for Heroes affiliate in Maryland, Ms. Tagliaferri Cronin recruited other attorneys to draft templates of estate planning documents and then organized the group's first event in Montgomery County where several volunteer lawyers drafted estate planning documents for thirty first responders. Upcoming events are now being scheduled in other Maryland counties.

    Rosenberg Martin Greenberg was selected to receive a Pacesetters Award from the Legal Aid Bureau's Equal Justice Council. The award, which was presented at the Legal Aid Bureau's 12th Annual Recognition Breakfast on Thursday, May 21st, was given to recognize the firm's leadership and sustaining efforts in support of Legal Aid.

    We are pleased to announce that Caroline D. Ciraolo from the firm's tax controversy group is the recipient of the Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service Educator Award for 2008. Caroline was honored with this award for the time she spent over the last two years as an instructor, training volunteers to represent low income taxpayers who have disputes with the IRS. Ms. Ciraolo was recognized at the MVLS' annual Recognition Reception on September 17th.
