
Paul M. Flannery joined the firm’s litigation department in August of 2007. His practice is unique in that it involves representing clients in a wide range of civil and criminal litigation in both state and federal court.
In the criminal arena, Mr. Flannery handles both traditional and white-collar criminal cases. He has represented individuals and business entities charged with a variety of criminal offenses, including bribery, immigration law violations, narcotics violations, RICO/VICAR murder, and assault. Mr. Flannery has helped to guide clients from grand jury investigation through trial or plea agreement. In addition, Mr. Flannery has experience with both federal and state asset forfeiture laws, and has represented individuals and corporations, including banks and secured creditors, who have had assets seized by law enforcement authorities.
Mr. Flannery is a member of the Criminal Justice Act panel, an elite group of criminal defense attorneys who are appointed to represent indigent clients in federal criminal matters before the United States District Court for the District of Maryland. In that capacity he was recently engaged in the trial of a multi-defendant criminal RICO murder case in the United States District Court, as one of the youngest lawyers ever to do so in Maryland.
Mr. Flannery’s civil practice is equally diverse. He has represented clients in a wide-range of complex commercial litigation, including contract disputes, insurance related disputes, professional liability cases, civil fraud (including false claims qui tam actions), and construction and land disputes to name just a few.
Mr. Flannery also handles appeals in civil and criminal matters. He was recently successful in winning an appeal in the Court of Special Appeals for a client who lost the trial of a land development contract case.
During law school, Mr. Flannery worked as a law clerk for Laubacher & Company, Rocky River, Ohio, and was selected to serve as an extern for the United States Attorney’s Office, Civil Division, in the Northern District of Ohio.
