Gerard P. Martin is a leader in the region’s trial bar. He began his career as a trial attorney in the United States Department of Justice and later served as an Assistant United States Attorney in Maryland, where he handled numerous high-profile white-collar trials and investigations. Since 1977, he has represented defendants in highly publicized white-collar criminal matters, as well as partnerships, corporations, and individuals in complex federal and state civil litigation, including civil RICO, tax controversy, and fraud matters. He was a founding partner of Martin, Snyder & Bernstein, P.A., and, before that, was a partner at Miles & Stockbridge, P.C. He is widely recognized as one of the few lawyers who are able to try sophisticated matters in both the criminal and civil arenas. Mr. Martin is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and the Maryland Bar Foundation. He also handles professional licensing matters and has served as the chair of the Maryland State Bar Association Ethics Committee and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Maryland Criminal Defense Attorney’s Association. Mr. Martin was selected for inclusion in Baltimore Magazine's 2007 and 2008 editions of Maryland Super Lawyers, was named one of Maryland's top litigators in Chamber's USA's 2006 and 2007 editions and named one of Maryland's top white collar criminal defense attorneys in the 2006 and 2007 editions of Best Lawyers in America. Mr. Martin was also recognized for his criminal and civil trial experience in Benchmark: America's Leading Litigation Firms and Attorneys (2008). He is a past president of the Federal Bar Association of Maryland and a member of the United States District Court’s Criminal Justice Act Panel, where he has recently been involved in federal death penalty litigation. He also served as a member of the Maryland State Special Prosecutor Selection and Disability Commission.
Mr. Martin received his undergraduate degree from John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio, and is an honors graduate of the St. Louis University Law School.
